Running Song
by Kristi McGarity
Virtual Studio package
This song is an example of our Virtual Studio package. The drums and bass are computer-generated, and I played the piano part on a MIDI keyboard.
The song was written for Brendan, the young son of a labor attorney and a Presbyterian minister who works with the homeless. Brendan’s parents are avid runners who have finished marathons together.
Running Song is a musical portrait of Brendan’s family, a message of love and encouragement. It’s also an explanation for a young child about why his parents’ jobs are important, why they get up at dawn and go to work every day. This song is about families looking out for each other and working together to make the world a better place.
Do you know a special kid who should have his/her own song? I’d love to hear your story. Contact kristi@songinvention.com or schedule a consultation anytime!
Running Song
You were born to be a quick one from the moment you stepped out
We will take you running, and we'll catch you if you fall
Go go go, get up and go, don't be scared at all
You're gonna run run run run run
You're gonna run run run run run
We'll take you on a marathon, we'll run on to the zoo
Someday you'll run places we have only dreamed of too
If you ever feel lost, don't be scared, we’ll run run run to find you
If you ever get tired, don't give up, we'll be right behind you
You're gonna run run run run run
You're gonna run run run run run
Some people run in daytime and some run in dark of night
Sometimes you are running too before it’s even light
There were lots of babies just like you, born around this city
There are lots of families just like us all around this country
Everybody works hard every day
And everybody gets too worn out to run and play
Brendan, here's our hope for you as you grow big and strong
There's a part of you that knows the truth is more than just right and wrong
Don't forget to reach out when somebody needs a hand
Nobody has it easy, you can be the one who understands
Now catch me if you can!
We’re gonna run run run run run
(to change the world for you)
We’re gonna run run run run run
(to make a better world for you)
Bonus for audio nerds:
Does anyone else think Native Instruments Studio Drummer sounds like a robot drummer from the Uncanny Valley? They don't sound like real drums, just almost-real enough to be creepy.
